As we approach the Lenten season, some of you may be considering a fast… something to give up for this time . And giving things up can do us some real good… in making room for God and for each other. This year… We’d like to challenge you, not just to fast from, but fast for.
For example, you might fast from your morning news for some time in prayer and scripture, a morning walk to center yourself for the day. You might fast from eating dessert alone, choosing instead to eat a sweet treat among company… maybe even making a point to have a treat once a week (or more) with someone else. Fast from that new, cute outfit or gadget you saw on Amazon and go to dinner with friends or take a walk with your family or give that money to your favorite non-profit, maybe even your church. Fast from social media and make time for in-person connection instead…

It’s our hope that some of you will choose to fast from your regularly scheduled Wednesday nights and join us at First as we seek connection with our scriptures, with God, and with each other this season. As you consider fasting this Lent, remember it’s not a jump start to your diet, but a time to focus in on the things of life that really matter… love, connection, compassion, Christ’s light within us all.
