Palm Sunday

Sunday, April 14, 11 a.m. worship, Sanctuary

On this final Sunday in Lent, our children will lead us in worship as they call us to begin our journey toward the cross. Our shouts of, “Hosanna!” will soon turn to, “Crucify him!” as we draw near to the cross.
Rev. Dr. Randy Hyde will preach on Luke 19:28-40, as we begin our journey through Holy Week.

Maundy Thursday

Thursday, April 18, 6:15  p.m. worship, Chapel

Maundy Thursday is the first of the three days of solemn remembrance of the events leading up to, and immediately following, the crucifixion of Jesus. The English word “Maundy” comes from the Latin mandatum, which means “commandment.” As recorded in John’s gospel, on his last night before his betrayal and arrest, Jesus washed the feet of his disciples, and then gave them a new commandment to love one another as he had loved them (John 13:34).

Maundy Thursday is an essential part of our Easter preparation. We observe the last supper and remember Judas’ betrayal. We reflect on how that betrayal is made manifest through our own sin, a necessary step if we are to fully understand and celebrate the ultimate triumph of the resurrection. Please join us in the Chapel as we remember, reflect, and affirm our commitment to our Lord, Thursday, April 18, at 6:15 pm.

Good Friday

Friday, April 19, noon worship, Chapel

Our sister congregations, Greater Lewis Street Missionary Baptist Church and Lifeline to a Dying World Congregation will join us for worship. The service will be about 45 minutes long so that you all can get back to work. A light lunch will be served in the Fellowship Hall following worship.

Thank you for helping to make our egg hunt a success!for children

Saturday, April 20, 5:30 p.m. Decorate Flower Cross

On Holy Saturday, we gather outside in front of the church to cover the cross in flowers for Easter. This tradition is close to many of our hearts and is a wonderful time of fellowship together as we anticipate Easter. Here are some ways you can help:

  • Bring bags of magnolia branches with leaves. (We need LOTS of these.)
  • Bring flowers from your yard, or pick up flowers from a florist to bring.
  • Lend a hand to fill our cross with flowers on Saturday.

This is a very meaningful symbol of life, hope, and transformation at the corner of Poplar and Parkway—both for our church family and for our community.
