David Breckenridge came to serve First Baptist Church of Memphis as Senior Pastor in August of 2008. A native of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, David is a graduate of Mississippi College (BA, ‘87), The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary at Louisville, KY, (MDiv ’90), and Brite Divinity School at TCU (DMin, ’08). David grew up in a home which valued faith and storytelling.
As a pastor and preacher he is still compelled by how the story of God's grace seeks to transform all of our stories into ones of redemption and hope, joy and promise. "Preaching," says David, "is the art of connecting the ancient stories of scripture to our story and in the process revealing the Storyteller behind them all as one who loves us more than we will ever know or understand."
David met his wife Leigh Ann in college. As a Nurse Practitioner and Professor of Nursing, Leigh Ann is more than a minister in her own right. She has never met a stranger, and eagerly offers her gifts in medicine and children to efforts near and far.
David and Leigh Ann are the proud parents of three children. Hannah married this past year and lives with her husband Anson, near Washington, DC. She is a senior at George Washington University. Seth, an avid fisherman, is a senior at White Station High School. Micah, an 8th grader at White Station Middle School, will follow any ball anywhere. In his spare time not claimed by fishing with Seth or cheering for Micah, you can find David spoiling his golden retrievers, feeding his addiction to music and books, and dreaming of what’s next.
